What is the Brian Curtis Mile Swim?
The Brian Curtis Mile swim started in 1999 in memory of a great person and friend who unfortunately passed away in November 1998. Brian Curtis was one of the founding directors of now called Cadiz Holdings Limited back in 1994. As a director of Cadiz his main role was to implement and develop the fixed income research and broking business, of Cadiz Securities. In his youth, Brian was also a top swimmer whilst living in Zimbabwe. At the age of 38 after being out of the pool for decades and recovering from sever hepatitis he was encouraged by Ram Barkai to get back into the pool. Brian soon regained his swimming talent and went was on his way to win SA masters SA colours in breast stroke masters swimming. The swimming enhanced Brian’s health and his wonderful passion for life. His resounding laughs still echoes in the Cadiz’s dealing room. At his wake, Ram and John Green decided to institute the BC mile to retain his laughter his passion for swimming and memory forever. Since then we have had thousands of swimmers joining us every year.
