Balanced Fund of the year: Cadiz Managed Flexible Fund
11 October 2011
Media Release
Cadiz Managed Flexible Fund recently won the 2011 Africa
Fund Manager Performance Award for South African Balanced Fund of
the year. The Cadiz Money Market Fund was highly commended.
The Cadiz Managed Flexible Fund is a prudentially managed (ie
complies with Regulation 28 of the Pension Funds Act) balanced unit
trust fund, which aims to provide investors with a balance between
capital growth and income over the medium to long term (the fund
targets a real return of 5% over rolling three years). The fund
offers medium risk, diversified exposure to equities, property and
fixed interest instruments and places an emphasis on active stock
selection, as well as sector and asset allocation. The fund
returned 20.82% (source: Morningstar) for the one year to end June
2011, being the consideration period for this
award.
Commenting on the outlook for the fund, portfolio manager and
chief investment officer, Francois van Wyk said; 'Our assessment
shows that following the recent sell-off in equity markets,
equities are now offering good value, and combined with the fund's
exposure to inflation-linked bonds and property, we believe that
the fund is correctly positioned for a weak currency and
environment where inflation is rising.
Paul Hutchinson, head of Cadiz Collective Investments said; 'We
recognise that sustained investment excellence is a key determinant
to the success of any unit trust Manager. We are therefore
extremely gratified to have received this further public validation
of the enormous effort being made by the investment team at Cadiz
Asset Management to deliver on each of our six unit trust funds'
investment mandates'.
Earlier this year Cadiz Asset Management was recognised as the
Best Specialist Fund House by Morningstar. In addition, the Cadiz
Absolute Yield and Inflation Plus (also managed by Francois van
Wyk) received 2011 Morningstar Fund Awards in the Cautious
Allocation and Flexible Allocation categories respectively.
