Cadiz activities are housed in two business segments

These are Cadiz Asset Management, and Investments & Capital (Cadiz Corporate Solutions, BNP Paribas Cadiz Securities and Makana Investment Corporation).

The Cadiz culture is distinctly entrepreneurial, and demands independent but responsible thinking and accountable self-management to deliver innovative, practical and efficient solutions. High-performance and innovation are the cornerstones of Cadiz, driven by proven specialists with extensive experience and world-class academic training.

1993

Cadiz was established as a financial services company focusing on derivative financial instruments, mostly futures and options and succeeded in attracting a small but high-powered group of financial specialists to the team. Many of the key players who joined at Cadiz's inception, are still with the company today.

1999

Cadiz Holdings listed on the JSE in April, with the share offer more than 130 times oversubscribed, making it the best listing of the year and one of the most successful listings in the history of the JSE.

2003

Cadiz acquired Prodigy-Coris Asset Management, doubling its asset base.

2004

Black equity ownership was introduced into the group in 2004 when empowerment group Makana Investment Corporation (MIC) acquired a strategic shareholding of 10% in Cadiz. MIC is owned and controlled by the Makana Trust, an organisation established at the behest of Nelson Mandela to cater for the needs of ex-political prisoners and their dependants.

2006

Cadiz entered the ranks of the top ten fund managers in South Africa by acquiring African Harvest Fund Managers (AHFM). This acquisition trebled the Cadiz asset base at the time and established the group as a sizeable competitor in the wholesale and retail asset management markets. The African Harvest business was successfully integrated into Cadiz and the enlarged fund management business was rebranded as Cadiz Asset Management.

2010

Makana Investment Corporation (MIC) increased its effective shareholding in the company to 15% following the acquisition of a further 5% stake in the business.

2011

France-based BNP Paribas (BNPP) and Cadiz Holdings joined forces when BNPP acquired a 60% interest in the Cadiz Securities Business. Having combined their respective strengths, the new business, BNP Paribas Cadiz Securities, will market and sell South African equity products to institutional investors in South Africa and abroad.

BNP Paribas is one of the world's strongest banking and financial services groups. With headquarters in Paris, the BNP Paribas Group has operation in more than 80 countries and over 200 000 employees across Europe, North America and Asia.

Cadiz leadership position in the derivatives market has been recognised in the authoritative Financial Mail analyst rankings, where the company has been rated as South Africa's foremost derivatives research and dealing house for an unrivalled 15 consecutive years (Financial Mail Ranking The Analyst 2011).
