Cadiz works in partnership with Greater Good South Africa
Cadiz is committed to investing a minimum of 1% of after-tax
profits in community support annually. In the past year the group
invested R1 million in social projects.
Philosophy
Cadiz believes that responsible and caring corporate citizenship
is a key component of true business leadership and recognises its
responsibility as a corporate citizen towards its stakeholders and
towards the communities within which it operates. Business has a
responsibility to help meet the needs of society at large and an
obligation to step forward and contribute time, energy and
resources to better the world in which it operates, a strategy
which will also determine its success within that world. As such,
the Cadiz Foundation is committed to playing an active role in the
development of a market democracy that is characterised by
sustainable development.
Foundation objectives
Cadiz is committed to making a decisive, sustainable and
positive impact on South Africa and to demonstrate, through its
Foundation activities, how it lives up to its core values and meets
its corporate objectives.
The main projects the Cadiz Foundation undertook were:
- GreaterGood South Africa (GGSA)
GGSA brings good causes and committed givers together in meaningful
and innovative ways to alleviate poverty in the country. We have
enabled GGSA to increase its database of registered causes and
registered givers significantly over the past year, despite the
challenging economic environment.
- South African network for Impact Investing
(SAII)
We are a founding co-sponsor of SAII and an inaugural conference
was held to build a community of socially minded investors,
individuals and organisations.
- Kommetjie environmental awareness Group
(KEAG)
KEAG is dedicated to the preservation of the natural environment
and the upliftment of the living environment, with all projects
creating employment while addressing real environmental needs. The
grant from the Cadiz Foundation was used in the Witsands/Soetwater
coastal conservancy project in the Western Cape.
- Make Christmas Matter
We have been the lead sponsor of this project since 2005. It is
managed by GGSA. The programme enables donors to contribute to
social development projects through an online platform.
- KIDS Foundation
This foundation provides educational opportunities to economically
disadvantaged children and Cadiz funded three KIDS scholars in the
past year.
- The Cadiz Swim Series
The Cadiz Swim Series is a programme of cold water Cape sea swim
races to promote swimming and to raise funds for good causes. The
events take place on public holidays to recognise significant
aspects of the country's history and heritage. Funds raised through
the swims are donated to aligned charities, including The
Homestead, the Western Cape Cerebral Palsy Association (WCCPA) and
the Vista Nova School for children with special learning
needs.
